Uncertainty Meets Opportunity at ISD Annual Event
“The mood was upbeat”, said Doug Sharpe, co-owner of Elasto Proxy, Inc., about last week’s ISD/FPDA Joint Industry Summit on Florida’s Marco Island. “People are embracing global supply chains and there’s a newfound emphasis on international industrial markets.” Although many manufacturers worry about an economic downturn in 2013, the small to mid-sized distributors that Doug met on Marco shared his enthusiasm. Economic uncertainty and international opportunities present challenges to companies like Elasto Proxy, but they also offer unprecedented rewards.
As a past-president of the International Sealing Distribution Association (ISD), Doug especially enjoyed this year’s event, which marked the trade group’s 20th anniversary of serving the sealing industry. Held in conjunction with the FPDA Motion & Control Network, the ISD Annual Meeting provided Doug and his wife, Donna, with an opportunity meet with a core group of partners. Discussions covered a range of topics, from the European debt crisis and slowing demand in Asia to uncertainty surrounding the U.S. national elections.
With strong operations in Canada and the U.S., as well as an office in China and a presence at European tradeshows such as InnoTrans, Elasto Proxy is well-positioned for a successful 2013. The road ahead will include challenges, but participants at this year’s ISD event are facing the future with confidence.
